Lucifer fell down on the couch with a groan.
A day that had started off pretty good, his psyche comparatively stable and his pain levels manageable, had quickly tumbled downhill.
First a group of sinners had tried to break in, leaving him with blood all over the lawn, then he’d had a disastrous meeting with Adam and Sera that left him with a pounding headache. Once he arrived at his meeting with his fellow Sins, it had grown into a migraine. The meeting had lasted all afternoon, and by the time he came home, he felt like he was hanging on by a thread.
Turning his head, he stared at the clock.
He should be thinking about having dinner soon, but he didn’t feel up to it. He’d give himself a couple of minutes to gather himself first.
His eyes travelled to the portraits that surrounded the wall. Portraits of him, Lilith and Charlie. His heart ached.
He missed them. It had been a month since Lilith left, taking Charlie with her, and each day without them felt longer than the last.
Looking at them only made him feel worse, so he forced himself on his feet, dragging them toward his bedroom.
He’d just summon something to eat with his magic and have dinner in bed. He didn’t think he’d be able to sit by the dining table all alone tonight.
He ran his fingers along the frame of a portrait of Charlie hanging by the door, mustering a smile at the toothy grin spread across her face.
He could only hope they wouldn’t be separated for that much longer.
